Vacancy at Médecins du Monde (MdM)

Médecins du Monde (MdM) / Docters of the World is an international non-governmental organization (ngo) providing humanitarian aid in 62 countries worldwide. We rely on the commitment of volunteer health professionals to providing medical assistance to vulnerable populations worldwide, as well in France and the Netherlands.

MdM in Indonesia will start up a long term intervention on ‘Making Pregnancy Safer’ in District Bener Meriah of Aceh Province. MdM shall support the implementation of the national strategy for Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness (BPCR) through upgrading the health services of midwives in remote areas. Meanwhile Village Health committees will be encouraged through participatory approaches to involve the community in reducing Maternal and Newborn mortality. The project office is in Takengon, and all staff will be based there.
For a period of 20 months MdM is seeking for experienced nationals for the following positions:
Trainer/Facilicator
Administration/Finance Officer

Starting date: September 2011

Trainer / facilitator:
Job description:
Responsibilities:
  • Design and development of training curriculum for different target groups
  • Develop training manual and materials based on existing national guidelines
  • Organization and facilitation of training sessions and quarterly workshops on related topics of project’s objectives
  • Facilitate training sessions with making use of participatory approach and methods
  • Supervision, monitoring & evaluation of training session of MdM team in the villages
  • Support community development process and community activities related to Program BPCR
  • Co-ordination and collaboration with local (health) governmental authorities at different levels, with national institutions on midwifery, education institutes, and with national and international NGO’s
  • Supervise and manage community mobilisers
  • Perform administrative activities and reporting

Profile of the ideal candidate:
  • University degree, preferably in public health, adult education
  • Experience in a similar position
  • 2 years experience as trainer / facilitator in rural area
  • 1 year experience working for an INGO
  • Experience in coordination of training activities
  • Experience in curriculum writing
  • Experience in coaching of staff
  • Ability to conduct an educational needs assessment
  • Experience in writing reports
  • Skills in monitoring and evaluation of training
  • Excellent language skills in Bahasa Indonesia (written and spoken)
  • Excellent language skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of Gayonese language is an advantage
  • Interest in health system and health care development
  • Excellent communicator and capacity builder
  • People’s manager and good team member

Administration/Finance Officer
Job description:
Responsibilities:
  • Accounting/finance/bookkeeping
  • Management of cashbox and advances to staff
  • Budget monitoring
  • Reporting – financial and other
  • Minute taking and reporting of meetings
  • Administrative and logistical management
  • Office management – supplies and maintenance
  • Personnel management
  • Ensure excellent communication within the team

Profile of the ideal candidate:
  • University degree in accounting, finance or equivalent
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar position
  • At least 1 year experience working with INGO’s
  • Experience in direct line management of staff
  • Highly organised and confident
  • Ability to work independently and as a good team player
  • Ability to work within MdM guidelines
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia
  • Local language (Gayonese) preferred

  • Integrity and personal conduct; sensitivity to diversity, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent in verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia. Knowledge of Gayonese language and familiarity with social –cultural conditions in Aceh Tengah and Bener Meriah is an asset
  • Ability to work in a team; being a capacity builder and able to take and give feedback to strengthen others
  • Ability to work independently, ability to well organize and coordinate many tasks, ability to prioritize tasks, being reliable and trustworthy.
  • Preferably experience in humanitarian missions
  • Ability to use computer program (Word, Excel and PPT)
