USAID through the project Indonesia Forest and Climate Support (IFACS) has initiated the establishment of GIS Forum in Gayo Lues district and therefore ratified by the Bupati (Regent) Decree No. 050/30/2013. To support the operational activities of the GIS Forum, pelaGIS with IFACS will initiate intensive mentoring activities therefore, constitute a fundamental requirement to ensure that the GIS forum will be capable of becoming a forum that can work to manage the spatial data and eventually be able to generate such data for the development planning.

Assistant of Remote Sensing Specialist (Three months Contract)

The main purpose of this job is providing training support for GIS Center of Gayo Lues District, particularly the remote sensing applications. Specifically, the training is aimed at the following:

a) Participants will understand and grasp the basic concepts of remote sensing.

b) Participants will be able to operate the remote sensing using ILWIS software.

c) Participants will be able to perform standard image processing.

d) After this training, participants will be able to perform land-cover classification of satellite imagery which then can be used as input data for GIS database.


Key Area of Responsibilities:

• Contribute in organizing and implementing the training
• Assist in mentoring activities.
• Assist in providing materials for the training.
• Contribute in preparing report

Qualifications:

• S1 (sarjana) in science, geography, mathematics or related discipline.
• Proficient in satellite imagery (citra satelit).
• Expertise in remote sensing application especially ELWIS Software
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate conceptual and technical ideas.
• Demonstrated ability and expertise with working in a team/group.
• Willingness to be placed in Blangkejeren, Gayo Lues for two months and another month in Banda Aceh.
