Islamic Relief Worldwide is an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in Birmingham, UK in 1984. Islamic Relief has a consultative status (special category) with the economic and Social Council of the United Nations is full member of British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND) and a signatory to the code of conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. It seeks to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes. Islamic Relief Indonesia is part of Islamic Relief Worldwide which has been working in Indonesia since 2003. Islamic Relief Indonesia provides service and support to the communities in mandate areas, based on the MoU with Department of Home Affairs. There are some initiative sectors under Emergency and Development program such as Shelter, Water and Sanitation, Health and Nutrition, Livelihood, Orphans, Education, Marines Fisheries, and Disaster Preparedness and Response. Through these sectors, Islamic Relief Indonesia plays significant role in alleviating the suffering and poverty of the world’s poorest people.

Islamic Relief (IR) through World Bank funded aims to develop an integrated marine fisheries project that will provide better sustained livelihoods and can be replicated in line with the objectives of Economic Development Financing Facility (EDFF). This project will be done in line with multidimensional studies to integrate economic fishing activities with social, cultural, and environmental considerations. The main goal of this sub-project is improving coastal community prosperity through integrated marine fisheries management and better market access.

Islamic Relief seeks to hire committed and experienced persons for the following positions:

Livelihood Senior Officer





Reporting Line : Project Coordinator
Base : Banda Aceh - NAD

Contract Duration : 3 months (possibility for extension)

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:







The Livelihood Senior Officer for Banda Aceh will act as the key person for fisheries technical assistance required in Sustainable Sea Fisheries for Simeulue and Singkil (SSFSS). His/her duty and responsibility is as follows:

- Prepare term of references and guidelines of activities related to SSFSS project
- Assist Communication officer in developing ToR for provision of fisheries technical books and region potential books as well as monitoring the implementation by local consultant.
- Provide technical consideration including technical specification of goods and works to be done under SSFSS project
- Provide advice for fisheries related problems related to project implementation seek for reliable and applicable solution to IR management.
- Building capacity of staff especially field staff in fisheries related information and knowledge.
- Assist Project Coordinator in collecting and manage information from the field level
- Any responsibility whenever line manager assigns.



DESIRED SKILSS AND COMPETENCIES

- Ability to analyze fisheries condition in project area
- Familiarity with fisheries terminology
- Ability to write ToR and report in English and Indonesian Language
- Ability to plan and conduct a simple research related to fisheries including field research and literature review.
- Good communication skills including ability to present his/her idea in front of others in professional forums or at a village level forum.
- Maturity and high self confidence
- High motivation to help local communities step out from poverty.
- An ability to work under pressure and within a complex and insecure environment

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

- Candidate should have a minimum 5 years experience in fisheries and coastal resources management. Experience working with international NGOs or local NGOs is a plus.
- Hold a bachelor degree in Fisheries. Master degree in fisheries or coastal resources management or related field is preferable.
- Experience working with fishermen communities in Indonesia, especially in Aceh
- Understand the big pictures of development work especially economic development in post tsunami period.
- Understand the principles of Participatory approach or PRA and able to train staff in participatory method as well as develop a module for PRA techniques needed in the project.
- Ability to speak and write in English at an acceptable professional level
- Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Power point. Skill in GIS software is a plus.
- Energetic and able to operate in situations which may be arduous
