Yayasan Jembatan Masa Depan (JMD), a not-for-profit foundation registered in Indonesia, works in conjunction with Building Bridges to the Future Foundation (BFF), itself founded in 2005 and a private not-for-profit operational foundation registered in the US as a 501(c)3 corporation. JMD and BBF together provide support for men, women and youth in Aceh striving to build a new future after 2004's devastating tsunami, and after more than 30 years of armed conflict. The mission is to provide sustainable livelihood programs, with particular focus on animal husbandry and agricultural initiatives, as well as related and basic education programs. Goals are to leave the villages served with new small enterprises firmly established, an educated and skilled workforce, strong adult role models to mentor local children, and confident men and women planning futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Position Summary

Based in Banda Aceh, the candidate will report to the President/Director of the foundation and will oversee all day-to-day operations in Aceh, including programmatic, administrative and financial management. An additional focus will be to scale up fundraising strategies in Indonesia and Asia to increase and diversify the Foundation's financial resources leading toward sustainability. The candidate will represent the foundation in meetings with current and prospective donors, institutional and beneficiary partners, and government representatives, among others.

Detailed Responsibilities

The Associate Director of JMD must be able to articulate and promote the objectives of the foundation in both public and private fora, including in very rural settings, while possessing the programmatic and managerial experience and skills to assure its efficient and effective day-to-day operations. The candidate will work in close cooperation on all fronts with the foundation's President. Responsibilities for this position include:

• Management of the foundation's programmatic, administrative and financial systems and staff in Banda Aceh and at program sites in the field.
• Development and maintenance of strong networking contacts among Aceh- and Indonesia-based donors, potential donors and institutional partners.
• Participation, and in some cases leadership, in developing grant proposals and in related communications with potential donors.
• Preparation of grant reports.
• Assistance in helping to compile information for the JMD/ BBF websites and newsletters.
• Support in the maintenance of clear and regular communications among Aceh-based staff and consultants in Aceh and the US.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• A minimum of a four-year university degree.
• At least four years of relevant professional experience.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both English and Bahasa Indonesian, with knowledge of Acehnese a plus.
• Excellent inter-personal, organizational and team-building skills.
• A high level of financial literacy, including a record of managing budgets, and experience with relevant computer programs.
• Knowledge about Aceh, Indonesia, with a strong preference for work experience in Aceh.
• Willingness to travel frequently throughout Aceh, including to remote rural areas, and at times to other sites in Indonesia.
